We and our LTS families are so grateful to the hos

We and our LTS families are so grateful to the hospital staff.... they're your advocates, your helpers, and your healers when you're in a time of need. I can't begin to tell you the incredibly positive feedback we receive from the hospital staff about our organization and the work our volunteers do. They are our main contacts when we get calls and if they didn't believe in LTS and the importance we wouldn't be getting so many calls and encouragement from the nurses. For them, we are so thankful! They really are looking out for their patients in all ways possible, this includes their long term healing and the capturing of memories of their child when there is loss.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Did you know that stillbirths occur in 7 of every 1000 births in Canada? This doesn't include infants who've been diagnosed with a life limiting illness or facing imminent death. Having said that, it means you know someone who has been affected by the loss of a child. At Light the Shadows, we hope to offer free photography services to as many families who need it as possible.... and now you know, there are many.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For most of the volunteer photographers at Light t

For most of the volunteer photographers at Light the Shadows, there's a personal story behind their reason for wanting to get involved with the work that LTS does. For Melanie, founder of LTS, it started with a photography session for a family near and dear to her heart. In her own words:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"I had done newborn photos for a friend and his family and shortly after I took their photos, I learned that he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the liver. Immediately I reached out and asked if I could come back to do more family photos for them, knowing that soon they would be cherished in ways I couldn't understand. I was able to meet with them again and did another set of family photos shortly before he passed. I remember sending the gallery off to his wife and telling her to wait till she saw him so they could look through them together, she sent me a photo of them looking through them... that put a smile on my face."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The value of photography, especially in the face of loss, is immeasurable. For the volunteers at Light the Shadows, their understanding of this value is what drives them to give of their time so that other families in extremely difficult life situations can also receive the gift of captured memories.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
